Double Proposition

Double Proposition

Today I swept the river waters.
My arms struck its resistance,
Paddling persistently,
Impelling my boat forward.
Drops from my brow cooled me off,
As I pummeled its flow.

I was never quite convinced,
That I knew where I was headed.
I'm only certain I need to keep paddling.
Paddling meant everything.
And everything is all I’ve got.

As I neared the fork,
Two routes came into view.
One to my left and another to my right.
Both seemed to be of equal value.
It’s likeness stood out,
More than I could decide.
As I approached the split,
I halted my boat.
I knew enough, that whichever way I go,
It would change everything incessantly.
Yet my mind was still undetermined.
And so I yielded.
Floating in uncertainty.

Stealthily, the current guided me towards the left.
Coercing me to stir with the stream.
I knew then where I need to go.
For inherently, the current couldn’t have gone any other way
And perhaps, that’s where I need to be.

Paddling on,
I looked back to where I once was.
The river waters were in constant unrest.
Unpredictably choosing where it flows.

I guess I’ll always wonder,
What it would be like to go to the right.

For No Reason

9/18/12
1:30 am
Nowhere

For no reason

It’s funny when I think I’ve got something to say,
But I really can’t say anything.
Not having expression renders it incomplete, doesn’t it?
It’s similar to wanting to write,
Yet you can’t begin to inscribe.
Words are understandably consequential,
But they’re nonexistent if they can’t be understood and interpreted.
To say that one speaks their mind seems unattainable this way.
And so, I think that’s all this is,
A mindless declaration of nothingness!
But then again nothing is anything but simple.
For nothing in itself is intense.
It’s a passionate statement of the lack of something.
When you got nothing, it is something, or lack thereof?
Either way, you know you’re up to something.

Sunday Shoes

4/18/12
1:02 am
Brooklyn

Sunday Shoes

There were days that are spent
In utter delight
Just as two old friends
Are brought together in sight

An erstwhile clash
Where no one dared to be near
Callous words were brash,
Repugnance, sheer

Amid all the grief
Grace persisted through
In a silent ordeal
Where candor rings true

Friendship is sweeter
The second time around
Just as a new pair of shoes
Brings happiness abound

Carpe Diem

2/29/12
3:44 pm
373 Park Avenue South

Carpe Diem

Thrust your hand
And stop the flow
Bring out the fury
And let it go

Extend your reach
As high as the sun
Lift your feet
And run as fast you can

Envision your dream
And encourage soul
Prepare for battle
Set your life in control

Time is evanescent
And little moments count
Do not wait ‘til the last second
Fate is yours to surmount

Home

2/15/12
1:01 am
Louisville KY

 Home

Where the tranquil wind
Comforts one’s soul
 Soothing as a sweet song
On a restful day
A sweet-smelling harmony
Of ardor and peace
Pervades the heart
And sets the mind at ease

Where strife perishes
And happiness persists
A refuge for the needy
Strength for the weary
When ingenuous love unites with
 Ardent devotion
It heals all wounds
And answers all questions
